Ford Motor Company and Celanese worked together to design a bench seat for Ford pickup trucks that was cost-effective, durable and versatile. It is expensive and challenging to find plastics that will mold into precise shapes effectively, which makes many interior auto parts costly. Celanese was able to identify a grade of Celstran® that fit their needs, Celstran PP-GF-40-20. This long-fiber reinforced polymer grade proved to be a stronger alternative material and could be injection molded into any shape or form. Safety was also a top priority in this process.
